Every great story starts somewhere small — a notebook, a quiet afternoon, a memory worth holding onto. Ruby turned hers into two worlds children love to visit again and again.
Where it all started!
A Notebook, a Cup of Tea, and a Memory.
It all started on a beautiful sunny afternoon when I saw my husband planting tomatoes in our garden. With a notebook in hand, I let my imagination take flight and thought about how fun it would be if the vegetables could come to life! I imagined the tomatoes and onions becoming best buddies, the lettuces welcoming their new neighbour, and the cucumbers chatting about the new arrivals. Just picture a lively vegetable garden filled with characters ready for all sorts of adventures! Then I needed some fun names for my characters! So, our family came together for a fun brainstorming session, and that’s how our first characters were born: Tommy Tomato, Suzy Strawberry, and Olly Onion! From that moment on, my stories truly began to thrive!
Every great story has its starting point, and mine kicked off when my dad gave me a diary when I was little. I loved spending time in my cosy bedroom, pouring my thoughts onto the pages and sharing all the little adventures and moments that made my world special.
The Hawkins Family Series is a celebration of my childhood adventures with my three brothers and our amazing dad. I absolutely loved sharing stories from my childhood with my young sons at bedtime. We would snuggle up together, and I’d tell them all about my funniest and wildest adventures. They would giggle and always ask for "just one more story!"
Those bedtime moments often turned into a fun-filled marathon of tales, and it warmed my heart to see them drift off to sleep with smiles on their faces.
It was my wonderful husband who encouraged me to write down these cherished memories for our boys. That’s how my childhood experiences transformed into storybooks that I hope all young readers and their families can enjoy! I truly hope these stories inspire you to share your own beautiful memories with your little ones!
