About Me

Meet Ruby

Welcome to my website! I’m so glad you’re here. I’ve received tons of questions from all of you, so let’s dive in!

Where was I born? I was born in North London. I have three brothers, and we were raised by our dad.

What was your childhood like? I can honestly say I had a fantastic childhood! Our home was always filled with laughter and positive energy.

Did you have any pets, and what animal is your favourite? Yes, we had quite a few pets over the years, dogs, cats, rabbits, and fish! My favourite animal is a dog.

What is your favourite time of the year? That’s an easy one: Christmas! I just love everything about it.

Who are your favourite fruit and vegetable characters in the Vegetable Garden? Oh, there are so many! You’ve only met a few so far, and I really don’t have favourites. Each character is special in their own way, and I hope readers will find their favourites at different times throughout their childhood.

Do you have a favourite colour? Absolutely! I love the colour blue.

What was your favourite book to read as a child? I have two favourites: *Little Women* by Louisa May Alcott and *Anne of Green Gables* by Lucy Maud Montgomery. I still love revisiting these wonderful stories! ( Check them out!)

What star sign are you? I’m a Libra, and my birthday is in October.

Do you have a favourite film? That’s a tough question because I enjoy so many films! A few of my favourites are *Up*, *Toy Story*, *Shrek*, *BFG*, and *Jungle Book*. But if I had to choose just one, it would definitely be *Inside Out*.

What is the next book you will publish? The next adventure in the Vegetable Garden Series is called “Where Does All the Rubbish Go?” In this story, you’ll join Sandi Strawberry on a journey to face her fears and lend a helping hand to those in need.

Well, that was great fun. If there is anything you would like to know, please drop me a line, and I will do my best to answer. Love Ruby x

Sweet Briar

The day has finally arrived: the Hawkins family are moving to their new home, and they arrive just before the removal lorry.

Excitedly, the children explore the garden and challenge each other to see who can do the best cartwheels. While Dad and the removal men work, Nanny Molly prepares a delicious meal.

The children unpack their boxes in their bedrooms, and later that day, three friendly faces appear over the garden gate. After introductions, lifelong friendships begin to form.

Best Ride Ever

In this story, the entire family visits the funfair. Harry, Ben, Ruby and Jonny each have their favourite ride, but which one will they try first? Can they fit in all the rides? Is the Helter Skelter too high? Is Cowboy City too dangerous? Are the Bumpy Cars too fast for the grandparents? Finally, there is the train, but which ride will be considered the best of all?

Christmas at 61

The story begins with Dad and the children visiting Nanny and Grandad’s house on a cold, pre-Christmas day. However, the children soon realise that there are no Christmas decorations or even a Christmas tree in the house. They start to wonder where Father Christmas will leave their grandparents’ presents—could it be that Nanny and Grandad are on Father Christmas’s naughty list?

Determined to change this situation, the children refuse to leave until the house is decorated and filled with Christmas cheer.

A magical holiday story filled with wonder, laughter, and the cozy feeling of home.

Where Did It All Start?

The Spark Behind the Stories

📝 A Notebook, a Cup of Tea, and a Memory

Every story has a beginning, and mine began when I was gifted a diary from my dad as a young girl. I would sit in my bedroom and write about different things that were important to me at that time.

What inspired you to write your first book?

I’ve always had a passion for writing. The idea for the Vegetable Garden Series came to me one afternoon as I watched my husband plant tomatoes in our garden. I started imagining the vegetables coming to life, Tommy Tomato, Lily Lemon, and Colin Cucumber! It was such a fun experience, especially with our young sons who joined in and helped name each fruit and vegetable.

🏡 The Hawkins Family Series

My own childhood adventures inspired the Hawkins Family Series with my three brothers and our dad. I used to tell these stories to my sons at bedtime, and thats when I decided to start writing them down. Those memories really became the heart of the series.
